Picture this. You’re a dog handler in the British police force. Your newly hired canine coworker is highly trained… but there’s one catch: the dog only speaks Dutch. Yes, this actually happened - after the British police had trouble recruiting suitable German Shepherds in the UK, they found them in Holland. But it seems the old adage about teaching dogs new tricks is true... and rather than sending the dogs to language school, the British dog handlers were taught Dutch instead.
Now the police dog handlers can fluently issue commands in Dutch to their doggy deputies, and everyone’s getting along happily. That is, everyone but anyone who meets the trouble end of those teeth.
